Here’s an offer Sharad Pawar will find difficult to turn down. With the nationwide brouhaha over large scale wastage of food grains growing louder, the Federation of Cold Storage Associations of India (FCSAI) has made an offer that could be, for the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Ministry of Agriculture, too good to resist.

In a letter to Pawar, president, FCSAI, Mahendra Swaroop has, on September 4, offered 31 lakh metric tonnes of surplus cold storage space for storing wheat in the country. While 20 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of this storage space is available for use in Uttar Pradesh, 6 lakh MT is on offer in West Bengal, 2 lakh MT in Bihar, and 1 lakh MT each, in Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
